“Flowers of Mezőség” twirly skirt, black

Made from cotton canvas fabric, this full circle, “twirly” skirt is cut from just two massive pieces aside from the waistband, featuring pre-steamed Transylvanian lace trimming at the bottom. The front of the waistband is decorated with fiery red tulips from Mezőség, a pattern found on an inherited pillow end.

It is important to know about embroideries from Mezőség that they work with few pattern variations and mostly a single colour, but with a much richer variety of stitches. Like all freehand embroidery patterns, this style allows for great freedom, the artist can shape and form it according to their own heart’s content. We just happened to fall in love with these beautiful tulips….

Along the bottom, our hand-drawn stylized female figure, a characteristic Hungarian ornamentation, was applied all the way around via hand screen printing.
